June 30, 2001, The Philippine Star, Kilusang Mayo Dares GMA to Make Good Her Threat vs. Highly Paid Officials,

Manila, June 30, 2001- (STAR) The militant Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) challenged President Arroyo to make good her threat to fire high-ranking officials of government owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) who will refuse to have their multi-million salaries and benefits reduced.

KMU spokesperson Sammy Malunes said "these millionaire-executives should be given their walking papers right away" if they decline to heed the President's call to quit their post if they are not willing to shun materialism in the face of enormous poverty in the country.

Malunes said employees are more deserving of high salaries and benefits.
