Unidentified men blew up a cellular site of Globe Telecom with an improvised explosive device in Parang town in Sulu province shortly before midnight Monday.

Radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported Tuesday the IED was detonated at 11:30 p.m. Monday in Wanni Pyanjihan village in Parang town.

It was not immediately known what group was responsible for the bombing. But in Luzon areas, military authorities put the blame on the New People's Army (NPA) in cases of similar attacks, noting that the telecommunications firm has repeatedly refused to contribute to the outlawed group's so-called revolutionary tax collection.

The Sulu incident prompted the military's Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) to tighten security at cellular sites and key installations in the province.

Meanwhile, members of the Philippine Marines foiled an attempt to blast a bridge in Indanan town in Sulu before dawn Tuesday.

WesMinCom spokesman Maj. Ramon David Hontiveros said Marines found two containers of ammonium nitrate, an ingredient used in making explosives, under the bridge to Poblacion village in Indanan at about 2 a.m.

Only last weekend, unidentified men blew up the Lagtoh Bridge in Talipao town. - GMANews.Tv
