August 15, 2000, The Philippine Star, 2 grenade-throwers charged for jewelry store robbery, by Rainier Allan Ronda,

Robbery and murder charges were filed against two men tagged as Martilyo Gang members who participated in the bloody jewelry store robbery in Pasay City last Sunday afternoon.

Superintendent Alejandro Gutierez, Pasay police chief, said charges were filed before the Pasay prosecutor's office against Noel Fulgencio, 30, of Sta. Cruz, Manila and Arnel Trinidad, 30, of Poblacion, Muntinlupa City.

The two were arrested by Pasay police community precint (PCP)-6 operatives who responded to the robbery of the Lucky Charm jewelry shop inside the Baclaran LRT Cinema Mall along Taft Avenue extension in Pasay City at around 12:45 p.m.

Seven men, including Fulgencio and Trinidad, went inside the store, promptly shot dead security guard Arlan Mardonio, and started helping themselves to the jewelry inside the store.

Policemen from the nearby PCP-6 rushed to the scene and engaged the robbers in a shootout.

During the shootout, one of the robbers, identified as Danilo Ulanan, was shot. The holdup men hurled three grenades in succession. Two of the grenades exploded hurting a PCP-6 policeman and 16 shoppers.

Trinidad and Fulgencio were apprehended by pursuing policemen but their still unidentified cohorts escaped with their loot of P20,000 in cash and jewelry.
