Zamboanga City: Two persons were killed, including a soldier and a suspected Abu Sayyaf, while another soldier and a gang were wounded when anti-terror forces encountered the suspects Thursday night [21 November] in a village of this city.

Armed Forces Southern Command chief Lt-Gen Narciso Abaya said the elements of the anti-terrorism forces under the Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ) were conducting surveillance when they clashed about 10 p.m. with ten of the suspects in Barangay [Village] Guiwan.

One of the suspects was killed while another was wounded during five-minute firefight while eight others managed to escape and are now the subject of a manhunt.

Abaya said one soldier was killed and another was wounded during the firefight that sent civilians scampering to safety.

"The troops were conducting surveillance against the suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf when they were fired upon," Abaya said.

The slain soldier was identified as Cpl Rogelio Genrangan while the wounded soldier was named as Cpl Carmelo Regis. The slain suspect was identified as Nadil Hasiman and his wounded companion was Almujin Salani.
