Alerted police and soldiers managed to capture a member of the Abu Sayyaf in Zamboanga City Thursday night [11 April].

Army Captain Noel Detoyato, deputy spokesperson of the Armed Forces Southern Command, said local police captured a member of the Sulu-based bandit group while trying to slip into a bus terminal in Guiwan Village, Zamboanga City.

Detoyato identified the suspect as Arium Mustakin, alias Abu Sakur, who worked under Abu Sayyaf leader Radulan Sahiron, a one-arm bandit leader known as Commander Putol.

Mustakin was nabbed by the Tetuan Police and elements of Task Force Zamboanga around 9 p.m. [local time] Friday [as published].

The military reported that many of the Abu Sayyaf rebels were slipping out of Sulu and Basilan due to the ongoing military pursuit operations.
