June 22, 2001, The Philippine Star, Military Belittles Reported Coup Plot by Pro-ERAP Groups,

Manila, June 22, 2001 - (STAR) The military today belittled the reported plot of pro-Estrada groups to launch another attack against the Arroyo government next week.

President Arroyo met with top military men led by Armed Forces chief of staff Diomedio Villanueva during a command conference today at Malacañang where she was given the assurance that the AFP is in control of the situation.

Yesterday, Army chief Lt. Gen. Jaime delos Santos hastened to stress that they will continue to support the administration following reports from informants that some Army officers have been offered money by unidentified parties to launch a coup against President Arroyo. Those being recruited reported the matter to higher ups.

The Young Officers' Union also disclaimed any part in the plot to overthrow the Arroyo government.

The AFP said Task Force Libra, which was used to neutralize the pro-Estrada groups when the latter laid siege to Malacañang last May 1, will be activated.
