July 29, 2012, Associated Press, Philippines: Suspected Abu Sayyaf member arrested,

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine police say they have captured a suspected militant from the violent Abu Sayyaf group who has been linked to past kidnappings and helped Southeast Asian terrorists travel in and out of the southern Philippines.

Regional police chief Senior Superintendent Edgar Danao says special police forces and agents of the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime arrested Ahmadsali Badron on Saturday in Lamion village in the southernmost province of Tawi Tawi.

Danao said Sunday that Badron has been implicated in the Abu Sayyaf's kidnapping in 2000 of several European and Asian tourists and workers from Malaysia's Sipadan diving resort.

Danao said Badron is also suspected of helping arrange the entry and exit from the southern Philippines of Asian militants belonging to the Indonesia-based Jemaah Islamiyah militant network.
