MANILA, Jan 21 (AFP) -

An unexplained power outage blacked out the main Philippine island of Luzon on Monday, leaving about 35 million people without electricity, the state utility National Power Corp. said.

A "system-wide" power failure on Luzon island began at 12:10 pm (0410 GMT), National Power Corp. spokesman Josephine Mangila told AFP. "We don't know the cause yet," she added.
