An Abu Sayyaf member, who carried a P1-million prize on his head and was wanted for the abduction of teachers and students in Lamitan, Basilan years ago, was arrested in the capital town of Isabela the other day.

The suspect, Alkaer Said, alias Kaing and Ibno "Abu" Rashid, did not resist arrest when police cornered him in Barangay Kumalaan in Isabela town.

Joint elements of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the 24th Special Forces Company of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), were armed with an arrest warrant issued by Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 261 when they raided Said’s hideout.

Deputy Director General Reynaldo Velasco, NCRPO chief, presented Said to the media at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig yesterday.

"We will search for any wanted criminal with an appropriate warrant of arrest as far as Mindanao to bring justice to the victims," said Velasco, who incidentally marked his first year as NCRPO chief yesterday.

Velasco lauded Senior Superintendent Miguel Laurel, NCRPO intelligence chief, and Superintendent Josephus Angan, head of the regional intelligence special operations office, for a job well done.
