December 10, 2000, ABS-CBN, People's tribunal begins Erap trial,

QUEZON CITY, (ABS-CBN) – The People's Tribunal, a mock court composed of anti-Erap organizations, charged President Estrada of violating human rights and degrading the environment.

Tribunal convenor and president of the Freedom from Debt Coalition Maitet Diokno-Pascual said the trial aims to show the violations made by President Estrada.

This includes degradation of women; service deprivation; environmental and indigenous concerns; displacement of peasants; poverty and workers displacement; and its all out war policy.

She pointed out Filipinos are now suffering because of the failed policies and broken promises of the Estrada administration.

The people's tribunal began its four-day trial Sunday at the Miriam College Auditorium. The group will hold another hearing Monday and plans to hand down its verdict for every violation made by the President daily until December 13.

President Estrada is currently facing an impeachment case before Congress. The President is being charged of bribery, corruption, betrayal of public trust and violating the Constitution.

Earlier, three mock courts in Davao, Cebu and Naga found President Estrada guilty of the charges leveled against him. The trial was organized by groups who have called for Estrada's resignation.
