October 18, 2000, ABS-CBN, ASG hostages spotted in jungles of Sulu,

ZAMBOANGA CITY, (ABS-CBN) - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday said that some of the hostages who are still in the hands of the extremist group Abu Sayyaf were seen in the jungles of Sulu.

Lt. Abdurasad Serajan said the three Malaysians taken from a resort island in Borneo were spotted in the hinterlands outside of Talipao while African-American Jeffrey Schilling was seen in Panamao, also in the province.

However, there were no reports on the whereabouts of lone Filipino hostage Rolando Ullah.

The Malaysians and Ullah are reportedly being held by the Abu Sayyaf group being led by Galib Andang alias Commander Robot and Mujib Susukan. Schilling is allegedly in the hands of another rebel faction led by Abu Sayyaf spokesperson Abu Sabaya.

"The foreign hostages are still there and being held captive separately by the Abu Sayyaf,'' Serajan said.

He added that troops recovered bloodied shirts and four dead horses allegedly used by the rebels in carrying sacks of rice and weapons to the jungle.
