New! Recommended Settings for Beginners and Advanced Users

Diigo offers lots of powerful features - many are fully customizable in the Toolbar options area. To make it easier for beginners and advanced users to explore Diigo's capabilities at different stages, we have decided to offer two kind of recommended settings. Go to Diigo toolbar >> Options>>Toolbar and Menus tab, and select the preferred mode. Make sure you click "OK" to save. Of course, you can always customize any setting by checking off the options you prefer.

Beginner settings:

  • Icons: Highlight, Sticky Note (floating note), Filtered Bookmark Lists, Options, My Home.
  • Icons text label shown.
  • Content Selection Menu (CSM) disabled.
  • Do not prompt to add tags when first highlighting.
  • Diigo not displayed on the top in the right-click menu.

Advanced Settings:

  • Icons: Sticky Note (floating note), Filtered Bookmark list, Clip, My Home, QuickD, Search, Send to Blog, About.
  • Icons text label not shown.
  • CSM enabled.
  • Prompt to add tags.
  • Diigo on the top in the right-click menu.

Groups RSS / Alerts

RSS for group bookmarks and group forums. You can also enable email notification for each forum thread that you are interested in following.

Group Forums

Diigo Group Forums allow members to initiate and carry on discussions on subjects of interest that may not be appropriate as notes on a single resource. The Group Manager may decide to organize forum posts according to pre-selected categories, or allow members to tag each of their own posts as they see fit. The latter method, while potentially less tightly organized, harnesses the power of tagging in a forum setting. It's quite unique, just like most of our features. Give it a try. Check out "Diigo Community Group Forum" as an example.

"Floating" Sticky Note and improved UI

Previously, a sticky note has to be tied to a highlight. Now you can also add a "floating" sticky note that doesn't have to be associated with any highlight! Hey, you can also move it around and positioned it anywhere you wish on a webpage! Simply click "Sticky Note" icon on the new toolbar (found in Toolbar Options), or in the right-click menu. Of course, you can continue to do in-situ highlight and sticky note as usual. Best of both world.

Diigo Groups

Well, Diigo stands for Digest of Internet Information, Groups, and Other Stuff. So it is time for Diigo Groups!. Learn More or watch flash tutorial on Diigo groups.

Daily Blog Post

Many users asked for it - it's now under "My Tools". Daily Blog Post enables you to automatically post entries to your blog(s) every day containing your latest Diigo annotated bookmarks at a set time. Give it a try.

Diigo Lab

We've just put up a new section called "Diigo Lab" under "My Tools". Diigo will be undergoing rapid improvement for the foreseeable future. For a faster development/deployment cycle, we will be releasing selected features, which, though tested and reasonably stable, may still be considered an "alpha" product. If you're adventurous, please help us test drive. Please kindly report any bugs / suggestions / issues to our user forum under "Diigo Lab", and check back often for the latest development. Thanks for your time and support.

Report Abuse & Junk

We've just added a spam control link " Report Abuse & Junk" under the footer of every single page. At Diigo, we believe in allowing ordinary users a chance to voice their opinions. We also believe that it is equally important to uphold the quality of the discourse, through various measures such as community driven rating, filtering, and spam control.

It is important that the Diigo environment is properly maintained. As a part of our fair use policy, we want to set a high standard for a public page comment or a public sticky note: if it is commercially motivated, it is considered a spam, and unless it adds something informative and substantive to the associated webpage, it is considered junk. Both junk and spam may be removed. For this, we'd really need the help of all Diigo users: if you see any spam, graffiti or simply useless junk, please report them by clicking that link and reporting the URL / any comment you wish.

We will continue monitoring and rolling out tighter and tighter spam /junk control measures. Together with our members' active participation and help, let's make Diigo a really awesome place for all to enjoy!

Add To Diigo

New improved scripts for "Add To Diigo" button. "Add to Diigo" is a simple way for your readers to save your page / blog post to their Diigo account with one easy click. If you have a blog, we highly recommend you add our Diigo button under your blog posts :-) Learn More

Bookmark and Forget

If for whatever reason, your attempt to bookmark a page is not successful, the information will be cached locally, and re-submitted automatically until the action succeeds.

A related tip: when you are at the bookmarking pop-up window, the quickest way to bookmark is to simply hit ENTER, which is the same as clicking "Submit and Close"

The order of clippings is now preserved

The sequential order in which multiple clippings of the same webpage are displayed now follows their original positions on that webpage. So for example, if you made 10 highlights on a long web article, then the 10 clippings corresponding to the 10 highlights will be sorted according to their original positions in the article (and not according to the time the highlights were made)

Brand new HELP section

Help section is now substantially improved and expanded. We feel this is important as Diigo is becoming more and more feature-rich.Check it out  (special thanks to CREATE for their "Diigo Edu Userguide", used in their district teacher training, that inspired us to provide this more detailed help section.)
