Ricardo Piglia detecta en Sarmiento al letrado que proyecta la nación capitalista como una imaginación (la migración, la inversión de capitales, la cultura europea del libro y la educación pública) sobre otra (el desierto, el gaucho y el cuchillo). En Sarmiento se admira esa doble eficacia: una imaginación fundante y la posesión de un escritura. Otra cosa sería preguntar cuándo y cómo se deja de ser sarmientino. Cuándo y cómo se abandona el escenario montado por el escritor-militar-presidente. Con Viñas diríamos: cuando el ferrocarril y la imprenta introdujeron al proletario, al anarquista y la bomba. Es decir: Sarmiento sería el intelectual de la etapa (breve y ya antigua) conquistadora de la burguesía. ¿La propia lucha de clases lo habría dejado atrás? La hipótesis de Piglia me resulta sugerente y complementaria: Sarmiento dura hasta Rodolfo Walsh. Considerando "Operación Masacre" como desplazamiento fundamental respecto al "Facundo". Ahí donde el escritor sanjuanino exiliado construye literariamente a su otro como bárbaro -con esa mezcla de fascinación y rechazo-, el escritor militante en transición cruza definitivamente la frontera e inventa un artificio político literario completamente nuevo. Al intelectual que diseña la ciudad y el progreso se le contrapone aquel que constituye su voz desde la actividad negada de aquel que no tendría lugar en la modernidad añorada. Hay en Walsh una veta antiprogresista fuerte, una innovación respecto al escritor crítico integrado, un creador de agenciamientos técnico-literarios completamente nuevos.

  "Enrique Saúl Liekens Cerqueda, nació el 4 de julio de 1882, en Juchitán, Oaxaca, se destacó como poeta, traductor y estudioso de su idioma nativo, el zapoteco.
  Desde muy joven, estuvo influenciado por el movimiento maderista, se unió al ejército constitucionalista y tuvo participación en distintas batallas y acontecimientos de la revolución mexicana, convirtiéndose con el paso de los años, en uno de los colaboradores más cercanos del General Álvaro Obregón.
  Para 1921, comenzó su larga carrera diplomática, representando a México en Estados Unidos, Austria, Alemania, Italia, Honduras, entre otros. A su regreso a México en 1930, fungió como diputado de Oaxaca en la Cámara de Diputados de la Nación en diferentes legislaturas. Para 1935, el presidente Lázaro Cárdenas lo nombró director de Pensiones Civiles y de Retiro (antecedente del ISSSTE), uniéndose a un proyecto cardenista de modernización política y fortalecimiento de las instituciones civiles, dejando atrás el caudillismo.
  Enrique Liekens fue un constante investigador del idioma zapoteco, durante su carrera militar, su carrera diplomática o como funcionario público, no desperdició la oportunidad de escribir poemas en zapoteco, textos sobre ortografía y gramática, recopilar información de lingüistas reconocidos o de hablantes nativos, incluso siendo mecenas de alguno de ellos.
  Para 1947, condensó todos estos estudios en la que es considerada su obra máxima “Los zapotecas no son zapotecas sino záes. Ensayo etimológico y semántico de la voz zá”. Estudio que presentó ante la Agrupación Cultural de Acción Social, la Sociedad Mexicana de Geografía y Estadística y la Academia Mexicana de Historia y Geografía. Fue hasta 1952, después de varios intentos fallidos por publicar, que su amigo el Lic. Francisco J. Santamaría, gobernador de Tabasco en ese periodo, mandó realizar un tiraje pequeño de esta obra.
  En años posteriores se dedicó redactar breves pero precisos tratados sobre temas específicos del idioma záe: ortografía, morfología, fonemática, uso de las vocales, uso de las consonantes, fonemas compuestos, géneros, números, onomatopeyas, sintaxis, raíces, fonogramas, abecedario, entonación, afinidades con otros idiomas, castellanismos, con la intención de implementar una Ortografía práctica zapoteca (záteca). Participó activamente en la Sociedad Pro-planeación integral del Istmo, el Consejo de Lenguas Indígenas y el Instituto Lingüístico de Verano y en la Asociación de Estudios de la Lengua Zapoteca.
  El Fondo de este importante oaxaqueño fue donado por el maestro Francisco Toledo a la Biblioteca Francisco de Burgoa, donde se le aplicaron los procesos de estabilización, organización e inventario, ahora las 14 cajas de archivo con más de 600 documentos que integran este fondo, se encuentran listos para su consulta."
