There is so much in this one—here’s one of many standouts: “So every time I was tempted to say, how can I, I would stop, take a breath, reframe and ask, how can my students … How can my students communicate with their parents more?” #vted

Athletic coaches don't just use skill drills in practice. They conduct scrimmages to prepare players for performance. Think of formative assessment like a "scrimmage"; i.e., students need practice and feedback before they tackle authentic performance task

"Among the many things students are expected to do, self-assessing their learning is part of the suite of metacognitive tools that are valued in today’s society. This skill enables the student to think about their thinking, identify what they're doing well and what needs improvement. Self-assessment takes practice, and when it comes to schoolwork, students are not given enough opportunities. "

Teacher @Catlin_Tucker saw that giving #feedback at the end of an assignment was too late to impact student work. She switched her technique to focus more on the process instead of the product. She's now training other teachers to do the same. #edchat htt

"I would argue in most classrooms, it's the teacher doing the lion's share of the work," said @Catlin_Tucker "And the person doing the work in the classroom is the person doing the learning" https://t.co/f0ixCeUp5F #edchat #teaching @callmeKi -
