FAST has a great search algorithm (so do many others) and a
unique automatic data cleaning tool. I've done some
broadband-related stats work for them in Stockholm (they
have an office there but the company was originally Norwegian).
Tom teaches CAR as a short course in the fall. Basically,
Goldstein replaced me with Tom and made the course an
elective while we were at BU. Goldstein figured that
everyone "knows" excel and google, so I was excess baggage.
His spring course occupies the same slot as Sandy Padwe's
investigative course -- they are both 6 credit seminars --
so you can't take them both. When I taught the course, Sandy
used to "subcontract" some work to me and my students, but
it was not a happy solution. For instance, we'd map his
students' data, do stats and database work, and so forth. At
least I was in the building and pretty much on-call, though.
So the 4-5 Padwe students each year who WANTED CAR and had
an assignment that used it, got a good glimpse of it through
the back door.
Sandy is great at things like forensic accounting, but
suspicious of people who concentrate on the data end without
doing "reporting." He's not wrong, but doesn't know what
he's missing.

The first presidential debate is over and the vice presidential debate is coming. Congressional ads fill the airwaves with claims and counterclaims. What's a voter to do?
Come to this three-part workshop at Santa Fe Complex to learn how to look beyond the scripts and see what is really going on this this fall's campaigns. A suggested donation of $20.00 for each evening (or $45 for all three sessions) will help defray the costs. All contributions go to Santa Fe Complex. Light refreshments will beavailable.

Sexy Librarian, a novel, published by Ellen Lupton/Slush Editions
*Sexy Librarian,* available for the first time this January,* *is Julia
Weist's first novel about the life of Audrey Reed--a beautiful,
sophisticated, New York Arts librarian who moves to the Midwest to work in a
public library. With its witty and honest perspective on the tribulations
of modern librarianship--its ideals and realities-- *Sexy Librarian* is an
essential read for all those who think life long learning is as important as
long nights of ecstasy. While Audrey struggles with an impossible romance
with the library director's ex-husband and a mountain of steamy New York
memories, she remembers why she fell in love with the library in the first
place and why she still finds it so damn sexy.
The volume includes a critical essay by Jennifer Tobias, Reader Services
Librarian at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, called, "In Search of the
Sexy Librarian," and a new publisher's afterword.

If you
setopt incappendhistory
the history will be saved after every command you run. I don't know if
you can explicitly save it without using that with the fc command or
something. - 2 more annotations...

But in recent years, the
notion of the separation of church and state has been taken by some well beyond
its original meaning. They seek to remove from the public domain any
acknowledgment of God. Religion is seen as merely a private affair with
no place in public life. It is as if they are intent on establishing a new
religion in America
– the religion of secularism. They are wrong. -
That I will not do. I
believe in my Mormon faith and I endeavor to live by it. -
