If you want a preseed file, change the kernel line to:
kernel (hd0,0)/newinstall/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed

Add Sticky NoteIf you already have a working linux system, installing without external media is easy
-
-
Add Sticky Noteboot from the new partition
-
How to make it bootable, GRUB?
-
-
Add Sticky NoteNote that you can't use what will be the root partition for the CD contents, as the installer is stubborn on formatting it
-
Unclear. 'New partition' mentioned above is where the CD contents to go to and boot from. why now suddenly 'you can't se that root partition' ? Should the CD contents go to a sub-directory instead of the root? is that what you mean?
-
-
Add Sticky NoteIf your new ubuntu install is going to coexist with your old system, you might find it convenient to create space for your new system as well at this point using gparted.
-
that means to create a 750M partition for CD contents and create another much bitter partition (2G minimum for Ubumtu 904 desktop).
-
-
Add Sticky NoteI used the following procedure for Gutsy. It can also be used for Hardy.
-
* Ubuntu 6.06.2 LTS (Dapper Drake)
* Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft)
* Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)
* Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon)
* Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS (Hardy Heron)
* Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex)
* Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope)
-
-
Add Sticky NoteYou need to copy the ISO itself rather than the contents of the ISO
-
What a trick !!!
-
-
Add Sticky Notedists/gutsy/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/
-
The installer is for Ubuntu 7xx or 8xx , while I am trying to install 904 it says 'No kernel modules were fount ... and kernel version mismatch blablabla...' So where's the installer for 904? Or maybe I should try other methods.
- 2 more sticky notes...
-
-
Be very careful of the dates of vmlinuz and initrd.gz. It's 2009-6 now and I downloed a 2006 something to have tried and wasted a lot of time. %#$%t ~~~~~!!
-
Add Sticky Note/install/vmlinuz
-
these two files' actual path may be (hd0,x)/vmlinuz and the ~.gz
-
-
Add Sticky Noteroot=/dev/ram ramdisk_size=1048576 rw
-
Note!!! one more parameter : file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed
is needed too. See blow . . . .
-
-
Adding the parameter file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed to the kernel line above should take care of the problem
-
Add Sticky NoteReboot, and choose "installer" from the grub boot menu, and continue as normal
-
