5.2. HDTV underscan
If you experience underscan when outputting video to an HDTV, this may resolve the issue:
sudo aticonfig --set-pcs-val=MCIL,DigitalHDTVDefaultUnderscan,0 sudo reboot
This sets the default underscan setting to false.

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r) sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx sudo aticonfig --initial sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv
The following steps did not work for me. In exchange to the next steps enter 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' and choose 'fglrx'. The steps above didn't work for me neither, could somebody please clean up these instructions?
Then you need to manually edit the xorg.conf file. So:
gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Under Section "Screen" The Identifier line needs to be changed to:
Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]"
Under Section "Device" (note: there may be more than one Section "Device" so this applies to all) The Driver line needs to be changed to:
Driver "fglrx"
Reboot.
Confirm it worked:
$ fglrxinfo display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9700 Generic OpenGL version string: 2.0.5755 (8.24.8)
-
next you build the kernel module - (also note, this has to be done every time you upgrade the kernel)
sudo module-assistant prepare,update sudo module-assistant build,install fglrx-kernel (or module-assistant -f to force a rebuild if needed) sudo depmod sudo rm -f /usr/src/fglrx-kernel*.deb
-
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri
