Pin-Chieh ChenDifferent learning styles are introduced in this video, such as visual way and and auditory way. However, the meaning is what basically people learned. It not about how they learned but what they learned.

Christopher BugajUnfortunately titled video, but the content is thought-provoking. It may help explain that meaning trumps modality when it comes to learning (but that modality is still important)

Jane JarvisIn this short video, Dan Willingham discusses the research evidence (or lack thereof) relating to "learning styles", a term that is often used in ways that are not grounded in research. In Tomlinson's differentiated instruction model, the term "learning profile" is used as an umbrella term to encapsulate all of the factors that might make learning more efficient and comfortable for a student. For an individual student at a particular time, these could include factors such as culture, gender, motivation, and a range of preferences for particular kinds of learning environments or tasks (e.g., structured versus unstructured; preference for individual versus group work). However, we should be careful not to treat "learning profile" as a synonym for "learning style" and try to label individual students as falling within a particular category or type of learner (e.g., verbal, visual), as there is very little sound research to support these types of categorizations as stable characteristics that apply across every learning situation. As Willingham reminds us though (particularly in his follow up message which you should also check out), that doesn't mean there is no value in differentiating instruction for learner preferences, or on other dimensions such as interest and readiness. A differentiated classroom aims to provide a balance between multiple ways of working to maximise the opportunities for all students to work in ways that match their preferences at least some of the time, to develop new skills in areas of weakness, to develop in areas of strength and interest, and to work at an appropriate level of challenge to foster learning. Willingham does advocate presenting content in a variety of modes or formats as it makes sense given the nature of the content being taught. Enjoy the video and don't forget to watch the short follow up video DW has posted to clarify his stance on differentiation in response to viewer feedback. His website and blog are also worth checking out.
