Take a look at the test paper in the video. Giving the panicked students a graph instead of a function, when they're under time pressure, would be evil. Granted, it looks like a cubic, so if one assumes that the function is supposed to be a polynomial, noting where the critical points are should allow one to derive the cubic, which one can then take the derivative of, but still ... -
