A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 struck the Tohoku region early Thursday, injuring at least 126 people, 28 seriously.
According to the Meteorological Agency, the quake, which struck at 12:26 a.m., measured upper 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Hironocho in Iwate Prefecture and lower 6 in Nodamura in the prefecture and part of Aomori Prefecture, including Hachinohe.
