Wikipedia is a resource to help begin the research process. Anyone can add content to Wikipedia. Wikipedia should not be used as a primary source, but as a place to start finding information to look into further. -

craig shepherdWikipedia is an open-authoring encyclopedia.
While maligned by many as site that promotes inaccurate information, Wikipedia has much educational merit. Based on the Wiki style of web design, anyone can make changes to articles anonymously. This means the learned as well as the ignorant have equal access to contribute (though that model is changing some). However, major inaccuracies are rare and it works as a good place to begin research. The site follows the creative commons attribution license meaning that anyone is free to copy, share, distribute, transmit, or adapt the work (with attribution given).
The site is well designed. A common look and feel permeates the site, ads and other distractions are not given and the organization seems clear. Several languages are also supported.
Modification dates are clearly displayed and the wiki allows you to view content history. However, credibility of the author is a question. Although references at the end of articles may help evaluate the credibility of a work, they do not guarantee it and require additional time to peruse. Recent news events highlight the work of this organization to increase credibility of their content. -

Katrina DonhamWikipedia is also one of my least favorite sites. Yes, Wiki can give us quick and easy answers to questions but the answers aren't always accurate. This free-style encyclopedia is just not reliable, and it's not worth the risk to use as a resource.

Anyone is allowed to edit Wikipedia articles, except for certain articles where there have been constant revert wars. Recently, some corporations have been altering Wikipedia articles en masse, specifically the CIA.
