Cooperating School Districts Virtual Learning CenterImagine hundreds of thousands of great short videos, and other media, explaining every topic taught to school kids. Imagine them rated and sorted into a giant Directory, making them simple to find. WatchKnow--as in, "You watch, you know"--is a non-profit online community devoted to this goal.

Chris JohnsonThis is a website that allows users to find videos from which children (3-18) can learn. All videos are hosted by other sites like YouTube, but content is approved and moderated separately. Comments and discussions are separate from the comments on the original post (i.e. WatchKnow comments do not get added to YouTube and YouTube comments do not appear on WatchKnow).
There is heavy emphasis on transparent, widespread monitoring of content. This is accomplished in ways very reminiscent of Wikipedia's moderation methods.
Right now, the site has a good number of videos, but lacks a rich community of active users. This means that it is harder to locate quality videos since few users have rated and discussed content. -

terry freedmanAt first glane, this wiki-based video repository seems quite comprehensive. Given that it can be edited by anyone, I'm slightly concerned that 'rogue' videos may find their place on to the site. Also, will stuff be moved about making it hard to find again? Still, there is a search facility. I will be exploring this and reporting on it in due course.
Thanks to coolcatteacher.blogspot.com for blogging about it, which is how I heard about it. -

Ian HechtAn American philanthropist and one of the co-founders of Wikipedia have joined forces to create this site for educational videos. All videos on the site (already over 10,000) are added by teachers and librarians, and sorted and categorised into content areas. It's a fantastic resource for educators!
