We are sharing this site with Singapore educators as a free site rather than Comic Life. The idea of students writing a little bit but really making their words matter is appealing to all of us. In the same way that you need to be very precise with words in poetry, we believe students must be very good with their words in a comic. Adding humor is also motivating to students. What ideas do you have to tie comics to learning outcomes? For Math?, For Science?

This is a web site I learned about in a graduate course. It is a great tool for educators to use to encourage students to create. There are many applications in an English/language arts classroom. Students can create their own cartoon characters called TraitRs and then they can create comic strips called ToonDoos. The ToonDoos can be stand alone comic strips, or students can create several that they then add to a ToonBook. My students created ToonBooks out of short stories they read as part of a small group collaboration. There are some limitations: once students begin creating a TraitR, they must finish it in that setting. You can't go back to make changes to it, though you can make changes to the ToonDoos and ToonBooks. Also, make sure students save everything as private so they aren't subject to nasty comments in the public forum.

I really like this site because students really get into making their own comics. I have used it for sequencing, vocabulary, and summarizing. And the students can post their works for others to see.

Its great for the students in the learning stages. The children mostly learn with the help of visual aids. So, we should provide them the basic visual aids and this type of activities. It'll enhance their abilities to understand.

I think that this is a great tool to use for students to demonstrate understanding of new concepts while being creative.
