The genius hour concept focuses on how the student learns best, what they would like to learn and how they can produce their highest quality work. It is an idea that uses inquiry, research, creativity and socialization to aid in construction of individual understanding through personal experiences. Allowing students freedom to expand on curiosity by giving them the chance to collaborate with teachers to design engaging lesson plans. During this time the students are in charge and given responsibility for self-regulated learning to identify their sense of purpose using personal interests to find understanding in key concepts.
This source is beneficial to my teaching because it provides a unique way of incorporating students interests and opinions into learning. The concept of an allotted time for students to be in complete control of their learning is something I will use in my classroom to maintain engagement and hold students interest in my teaching principles.genius-hour education classroom environment inquiry creativity

The study and work is motivated intrinsically, not extrinsically. The big idea for Google is that employees motivated by curiosity and passion will be happier, more creative, and more productive, which will benefit the company in terms of both morale, “off-Genius” productivity, and “on-Genius” performanc" -
