Using technology for learning makes sense. Technology creates access, transparency, and opportunity. Any smartphone or tablet is media incarnate–video, animation, eBooks, essays, blog posts, messages, music, games.

his is not a new idea, but what makes this graphic useful is the indicators offered that clarify Dos and Don’ts–kind of like an educator’s Goofus and Gallant.

Goofus gives iPad to students so that they can Google topics for a “research paper.”

The chart continues this pattern, but misses the opportunity to make Highlights allusion for nuance:

The article from TechThought (2014), talks about the contrast between using technology in the classroom and integrating technology to be a part of the classroom. The article is complimented by a chart showing the contrast including examples such as: simply using technology and developing it as part of the classroom routine, using technology to instruct and using technology to engage, just to name a few. Technology is described as being a tool students can use not just to use but to develop and create meaningful learning. Technology is described as being a tool to empower students and allow them responsibility for their own learning. I feel this article is very relevant to my future practice as technology is ever changing and becoming more relevant in our lives. I feel that as a teacher I have the power to provide my students open opportunities to use and utilize technology to enhance their learning as well as to be productive with useful relevant technology tools. I believe there is a difference between simply using technology and integrating it and I feel it is important to integrate the proper use of technology in the classroom to develop a strong sense of digital citizenship amongst learners.

EDUCATIONAL - Technology Use and Integration
Description: This infographic provides a visual comparison of technology use and integration.
Future Use: What I like about this infographic is that it serves as a "do" and "don't" list for teachers that are looking to transform the classroom by introducing technology. Technology use is a starting point for teachers, and it eventually changes into an integration, where students have a larger role with whatever technology is being used. Although I'm passionate about using technology to transform education, I know that it's a gradual process, so I can use this as a guide along the way. -

Technology usage is planned and purposeful.

easy to say to “be purposeful.” It’s another to know what that looks like–which is where all of the indicators as a whole can be useful to you as an educator.
