Nick StannardThis web resource is a fantastic way to input the concepts surrounding time as a daily routine. There are multiple activities on this website that can be used in different ways but I find the most useful to be the whole class clock, as it would be a great activity to allow input from everybody in the class. Lee, J., Ok, J. & Lee; Fox, J. (2009) believe that having a routine assists children in their ability in to associate time with daily events.
It is of great importance for teachers to integrate the aspects of time with classroom activities in students' lives on a daily basis (Lee, J., Ok, J. & Lee; Fox, J., 2009). This definitely supports the use of this resource in the classroom. It can become the basis of a routine, or some of the other activities on the website could be utilised for daily mathematics activities. -

Heidi AdamczykThis site has numerous clock templates, worksheets and activities to download. Both Sperry Smith (2009, p. 221) and reading M1 (Lee , Ok & Lee, 2009) state that students in the early years successfully learn time through recognizing the daily/weekly/yearly schedule in direct relationship to their lives and routine.
Van De Walle et al. (2010, p. 384) suggests introducing time to Kinder/S1 students by beginning with a one-handed clock. Afterwards, have students discuss what happens to the big hand as the little hand goes from one hour to the next. For older students these resources could be used in conjunction with a Unit of Work for Time (Units if Work, 2003, p, 113-115).
For pre-service teachers it is of value to peruse The New Primary Mathematics Handbook (O’Brien & Purcell, 2004, p. 60) to ensure that students are taught all the various aspects of time (for example seasons and months).mathematics time Measurement analogue time Marker telling time

renai wilsonThe NSW Board of Studies (2002), indicates that "Students develop an understanding of the passage of time, its measurement and representations, through the use of everyday language and experiences" (p. 181).
I believe that as well as concrete materials, an Interactive White Board (IWB) could be used to further develop these skills, whilst working mathematically in an interactive lesson. These variety of activities will allow students to have ample opportunities to acquire and practice these skills, whilst engaging and developing their understanding of measurement as they move through from Early Stage 1.
Sperry Smith (2009), claims "most curriculums prescribe that children learn 'to tell time' in first grade" (p. 221). Therefore, I have bookmarked these activities as I feel they are a great resource for the classroom because they give students the opportunity to further explore and develop their knowledge of 'reading' time. -

Caitlin StrongThis is a great activity to help students associate analog time with digital time. It can be used as a small group activity in a rotation sense or in a large group, which would allow the teacher to explain the concept of time and the association between analog time and digital time (Guided Discovery).
