Amy SheetsI scored being a cyber saint! I received 5 points. Too close for comfort. All of the points that I did receive were from when I was in high school. There were a few times I tried to hack into my boyfriend's email to see if he was talking to another girl. Got locked out. Knowing that kids do this everyday is so heart breaking.
In reading the different kinds of cyberbullies I found that the "mean girls" type is the most common. I feel that this type is the most disturbing. I found that the "entertainment" aspect is the worst part. This type of bullying can get out of hand and sometimes has the worst outcomes. I just think about when I was young with a group of girls and we would start talking about someone else it was not pretty. So unkind, but with technology now days it would be easier to "do something about it". There can be an immediate way to let out frustrations and ultimate payback is for the world to see. Such an angry action, it is awful. I just hope that as a future educator and parent that my kids will not behave in this manner. We need to be aware who are children are hanging out. Knowing that the "mean girls" can be any where could be so scary for one that may be receiving such threats. -

allen073The grade level I chose was 11-13 (middle school level) because that is the level I am most interested in teaching. After taking the quiz I learned that I am a cyber sinner, which means I need to improve my online behavior. Most of the questions I gave myself points for where things I have done in my younger years, but couldn't ever imagine myself doing now that I am older. I believe that I made these mistakes when I was younger because I was never taught, or never knew about, what exactly online bullying is and what effects it can have on other people.
When viewing the teacher section on this website I learned that there are many different kinds of cyberbullying and different ways of addressing each. An example of this is the "Mean girls" cyberbulling. This is most common between a group of girls targeting another girl for some form of entertainment. A way to address this is to not give the attention that the bully is seeking and it will most likely stop. It is a good thing for teachers to understand the different types of cyberbulling and how to stop it in case they are confronted with it in their classrooms. They can also share this information with their students to better understand what cyberbullying really is and ways they can defend themselves from it. Another idea I learned from this section was ways to bring cyberbully programs into the community. As a teacher I can have my students sign a Stop Cyberbullying Pledge to encourage students to not participate in cyberbulling when they leave school, or I can send handouts home for parents to read about cyberbullying and ways they can help prevent it themselves. -
