Paul HavankoPurpose: To provide students with a guide to the most pivotal events in American History. It credits itself as "This site is a resource for students, teachers, and anyone else who wants to learn about Social Studies."
Bias: There appears to be no bias within the site. Facts are connected with knowledge of American history.
Credibility: The site is created by David White. He is the former About.com Guide for Social Studies for Kids. The site claims "He is an expert in the field." A link to a bio seems to support his education in history.
Currency: It's American History, so it hasn't changed much since 1776, but in all other regards, there's no indication of when the information was posted, or last updated.
Who wrote it? The site is created by David White. He is the former About.com Guide for Social Studies for Kids. The site claims "He is an expert in the field." A link to a bio seems to support his education in history.
Readability: This isn't the most sophisticated looking website in the world. In fact, at first glance, it looks like a website that is littered with ads and a lot of aimless links to places that only provide worthless ads. But despite surface appearances, the site does contain useful information written in short bursts that I believe a 5th grade class could read and comprehend.
Advertising: Littered with ads. Only New York's Times Square comes in a close 2nd place for the number of ads displayed.
Summary: This is an adequate site for finding various information regarding the pivotal events in the American Revolution. The site is mostly designed for research and fact finding exercises. I can see a teacher using this as a site for his/her students to look up specific information about the revolution and the war against the British. -
