annaflaws1) This website provides information on the Thirteen Colonies of the United States. There are three pages of content that list the colonies, explain why the colonies were set up, give characteristics of the colonies, and describe the beliefs and revolutions of the colonies.
2) Because this website has mostly written content, it could be used alongside a WebQuest where students would be prompted to fill in blanks on a worksheet that corresponds with the site. Another option would be to group students and have them read aloud paragraphs to one another and explore the information together.
3) This website relates to ALEX grade 2, standard 1, "Relate principles of American democracy to the founding of the nation" which includes "identifying reasons for the settlement of the thirteen colonies." This website clearly meets these standards as it gives an ample amount of content pertaining to this particular information.
4) This website is free, easily accessible, and it meets the ALEX standard as it provides content that is simple to view and understand for second graders.
5) This item was chosen because it does not overload the student with unnecessary information, rather it gives the content that is most important for this subject. Other websites gave too in-depth details that students at this level are not required to know. -

Donna PhillipsSite made by David White, and if his bio is to be believed, he seems well qualified. Includes a pop-up that looks at aspects of colonial life across the colonies and a page with links to brief info about each one of the colonies.
