eweisslingerSearch-Cube is a search engine that returns more relevant results. It is appropriate for any age group. Search-Cube can also be beneficial for diverse learners because it narrows and structures the results of Internet searches, removing extraneous web pages. Search-Cube functions similar to the "advanced" search feature in Google, but the results page is more precise and ordered.
Intended Use: My students research many topics throughout our study of the world and my fear is that an open search can expose my students to inappropriate and unrelated content. I intend to use Search-Cube to maximize student learning and time on task through more precise topic-related returns when researching a topic.toolkit Weisslinger search search engine visualization visual web2.0 education tech

I think searchcube would be a great research tool for my students to search how we use our math skills in real world situations so they will be able to relate to the lesson. Also I would use this for them to search different math games and activities on their Ipad according to the standard that we are working on. -

Stefanie HutchinsThis is a more simplified version of an advanced Google search. It's a one stop research spot. I was even able to send the search results in an email to someone. Aside from Wikipedia, all of the resources were legitimate and usable in any classroom research project. It even showed book and movie references for research.

Nick BiggsSearch cube is really helpful for students that recognize images. Instead of doing a google search and only getting descriptions and links, Studetns can see an image that relates to the topic. For me it would be good to help me recognize product images and to insure I was going to the right website.

Sarah AvillaThis resource is a search engine that provides visuals next to the corresponded link of textual information. This makes searching the web a little less intimidating and a lot more accessible for students who are intimidated by an abundance of text and /or have a difficulty reading, or determining which sites are credible and which sites are not. This will now be the search engine used with my students when they are doing research of any sort.

Kendra BaileyThis is confusing. In theory, this search engine idea sounds great! I watched a Youtube video about it and love the concept. However, I cannot get it to work. It will only do a routine Google search. I think this website is a great idea for visual learners but they need to get some kinks worked out before it is truly beneficial.

Devi VenugopalShared by Devi Venugopal. Search Cube is free and allows a visual search. This would be helpful to students who are visual learners. It is also a good resource to share with parents and families who may think that searches are limited to Google and Bing.

betsyjohnston406Search-Cube offers a customized internet search for users. Part of what makes this search engine unique is that it offers a more visual component to searching. Each site is accompanied by a photo and a streamlined presentation of sites. This is an excellent source for many students, particularly those that may experience greater success using a visual format. This allows students with reading challenges to access material in a meaningful manner. This visual component is also highly useful for English Language Learners.

Betsy HareIt seemed to be your typical Google search, but instead of all text supporting the website link, next to the link was an image related to what was on the website. This seems to be a newer resource, so the creators may still be adjusting how this service works. Even though it did not live fully up to my expectations, I can see how this could be beneficial to ELL learners. If students are asked to do research, but they aren't understanding what they are reading at least the attached images can help to keep them on the correct track. This resource seems to have potential, but I will probably continue to use sites like Instagrok with my students for a visual representation of a search engine.

Megan ZinkSearch-Cube is a custom search engine via Google that gives you a much more customized search. It seems to give much more reliable websites first which will be great to use in my classroom. We teach research skills with online resources and I will absolutely be including this! 4th graders have a hard time telling the difference between a reliable site and not reliable site - hopefully this will help.

Anthony CuocoSearch-Cube allows students to see an image before opening up a website. This site would work well for visual learners. For the average google user it also makes the search seem more appealing because it feels more organized and concise all while adding color.
In this classroom this has multiple important uses. As I mentioned briefly, visual learners may work better through this function of google search. While the results are the same, students can easily see what the web page is about in addition to the description. It would be more useful if this tool focused in on academic websites rather than a simple google search, it still attempts to inspire students to look beyond only wikipedia. Overall this would be a helpful search tool for early research of a topic in my Social Studies classes. -

Especially good for searching for videos and images. I would use this with teachers and students. -

Jayne SawtelleI'm just making a negative note about this one... sorry. Search-cube did great for my simple search of "guitar," but when I looked for something that I need for my other Lesley course (a longer, more descriptive search), it took forever, had this really annoying rotating cube for way too long, and didn't give me any results after more than a minute.

parker rowlandI could not use this site with my students in the fourth grade but I could see this being a good site for upper level students to use for research. My concern with this site is there are so many videos that it would be impossible for the teacher to watch and ensure are appropriate before allowing the students to use them.

Karen DayThe search cube can be used in several instances within the college. The second level students need to learn many specifics about each particular type of cancer. This cube would be a way for them to collect and organize information so they refer to it later for presentations, studying for tests and writing case studies. This would be useful for all types of students because of its visual and audio capabilities. The most helpful aspect of this program is that it will organize the information so it came be accessed easily. I think it would be useful for me!!!!
