Kim CollinsI have no idea how good or bad Scribus is, as I haven't tried it. But it came up fairly high in the search engine rankings when I was searching for book publishing software, and their site looks professional. Scribus's code is open source so it's free and free to be modified. For someone who knows some code and isn't afraid to tinker with their software, Srcibus could be viable alternative to expensive conventional page layout software.

Katie AlbinScribus.net is the homepage for the Open Source Software Scribus. Scribus is a free desktop publishing software that is comparable to any Adobe program. This website describes the many features of Scribus as well as provides links for downloading the program. There is a link to the developers blog which has a lot of great information about Scribus and its developer. There is also a section where there are screen shots from Scribus, which allows the user to see what Scribus looks like, before downloading it. This is a great website to check out prior to downloading Scribus and a great website for when problems arise with the program.
