brennastoneweb-quest telling time on a clock review
Content: When first looking at the website I am able to identify the content and the intended audience. However, who the author is and information no the author is not available, as well as the sponsor of the website and contact information. The latest revision date is not listed, and there are not links to other websites. The purpose of the sight is very clear and it states what is used for on the homepage. The content achieves its purpose affectively and appears to be complete. It is well organized, easy to understand, and offers a sufficient amount of information related to my needs. The website is simply a game, and nothing more so information about the author is not important to me. Having links to other games like it would be helpful but is not important to me as the website content suits my needs. The content and website is very useful for my informational needs.
Design: The website load efficiently and is attractive, especially for the age group I am using it for (third grade.) There is no index or table of contents, but it is a single game on a web address, and there is nowhere else to go on the website, so it doesn’t need a table of contents. Navigation on the website is very easy and simple, and directions for the game are clearly stated. There are no internal or external links. Information is very easy to find and the website design is very easy to use. Links to other websites are not provided, but I find that good because the third graders using this site will not be tempted to click on them and get off task. The website is well designed and easy to use. -

Heather AdamsThis is an interactive study game that has students stop the analog clock at the time written in words at the bottom of the screen. Students can practice by using this game in class and on their own time. It is an individual activity for students. I would use this as an activity for students to do after they have completed assigned classwork in math class after we have covered the topic of time. It meets first grade math standard 2.3.1.C: Tell time on an analog and digital clock to the nearest hour and half hour. It includes a moving clock as animation for a visual principle.

Michelle PullenRead the time in words then stop the clock at the right spot. Ten turns, score is recorded. The hand speed can be adjusted so children will need to think quick. Great practice activity.

Ellen MeirThis activity is excellent for small group or whole class participation. They not only investigate the concept of time as the clock face demonstrates but they also learn to recognise the words associated with the correct time. This allows children to explore the language used when exploring this topic. Lee, Lee and Fox (2009, p.191) expresses the importance of using sequential words like; first, after and next to help develop children's understanding of time. The syllabus re-enforces the importance of using language to develop their knowledge of the passage of time by establishing it as an indicator (Mathematics Syllabus, 2007, p.180). As educators the children's learning experiences based on time need to help children order the events in their daily schedule (Sperry Smith, 2013, p.225). Children become effective communicators through noticing and predicting the patterns of their regular routines and the transition of time (Australian Government Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations [DEEWR], 2009, p.12). Children are able to relate time to events that are occurring in their day to day encounters and help them make sense of their world. QACRR is evident when using this activity as it provides the children the opportunities to question, apply strategies, communicate, reason and reflect on their understanding and to practise their ability to associate time as an important aspect of life and a form of measurement.
