  • Associated Press reports that CU president Hank Brown has recommended that tenured professor Ward Churchill be let go amid allegations that he fabricated or falsified his research and plagiarized. Churchill created a firestorm when in an essay when he likened some victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to the notorious Nazi Adolph Eichmann, who helped carry out the Holocaust.
  • David Horowitz, president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center and the coalition known as Students for Academic Freedom, considers it good news that Churchill may be fired. "The bad news is that it's taken years to get to this point for a man who should never have been hired in the first place," he laments, "and they have had to spend millions of dollars to do so."

  • "It shows that the tenure system is in need of an overhaul, if not an outright elimination," he asserts. "If you can't fire incompetent, fraudulent teachers, then tenure -- rather than being an aid to the educational system -- is an obstacle to creating a good educational system, which I think it actually is."

      

    Horowitz contends that Churchill should be fired for incompetence, not because of his outrageous comments about the 9/11 victims. Churchill has threatened a lawsuit if he is ultimately dismissed.
