A score of 700 is needed to qualify for a traditional 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, Ms. Cohn said, but clients wanting an interest-only loan will need a score of at least 740. “I have banks that will give you a loan with credit scores below 700,” she said. “But, once again, you’re going to pay up on the rate.”
