Would wider knowledge of the Baltimore Catechism or New Testament stories really advance debates on, say, stem-cell research? Or would people find new reasons to cling to their old opinions?

    • This is an important question with broader ramifications than Oppenheimer indicates. What about understanding the theological and practical differences between Sunni and Shia? How much difference would that REALLY make in policy? Isn't it just enough to know who plays for which team?
