This website is great to use on a day when I need a sub, or if we have some extra fun time in a lesson for students to explore and learn more about a classical symphony! Students can explore a variety of things on this website, such as learning about composers, meeting members of the orchestra, learning about different instruments and even playing composition games!

  In the NY Phil Kidzone students can interact with instruments of the orchestra, learn about composers, compose music, interact with professionals from the orchestra, read about historical musical time periods, and practice their new knowledge in various games. This is a great way for students to explore musical knowledge in a fun and interactive way and could be beneficial for beginning and intermediate musicians and students to learn about their instruments and the history of the orchestra.

  This is the New York Philharmonic's kids' site. The Newsstand sections offers short stories about composers from each major time period. This would be a great resource for students to use when completing a project on a composer, or when we start to study a different composer. There's an "instrument lab" that shows you how to make instruments from stuff at home which would be a fabulous project to do with students as well.

  Recently, I stumbled upon The New York Philharmonic's Kidzone. It is pretty much one of the greatest resources that I have seen for an Elementary General/Elementary Instrumental Music Classroom. Come to think of it, it would be useful for a Middle School Classroom also.
  
  There are composer biographies, history lessons and much more. There are tons of games, listening examples, and places to meet the musicians of the orchestra. Another great set of tools on this website are the various composition tools that can be used in the classroom.
  
  If you haven't taken the time to explore this site, please do! I spent over an hour there the other day....
