Jill WengerThis website was created by the United States Department of Agriculture. It provides specific details on food groups and can be targeted to different audiences. It also provides interactive tools for students to use. For example, students can plan a healthy menu, get a personalized plan, analyze their diets, and listen to podcasts. In addition, the website provides a "Tip of the Day."
I use this website in my Nutrition and Wellness class. I have them create a personalized plan. After they enter personal information such as age, height, weight, and activity level the program will generate an individual plan for each student. This plan tells them the exact amount of servings that they should consume in each day. It also gives the individual a suggested amount of physical activity per day. In addition to food group amounts and exercise, the plan tells them how many calories they should consume in a day. This program is very easy to use and printable materials are available. I also have them use MyFoodapedia which helps them with serving size information. Although I use this in my classroom, I also use it on a personal level. Plus, this is a great tool for parents to use with their children. -
