Something about late summer, or the smell of fall, makes Silicon Valley venture capitalists turn into lemmings and rush in collective frenzy toward the latest new Internet sector.
No matter, like clockwork, the end of summer is nigh again and VCs can't resist the feeling: This time, they're piling together into a sector we'll call ``social software.''
SOLAR NOTE: Looks like consolidation is already beginning among next-generation solar cell technology companies. East Coast start-up Konarka, backed by local venture firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson and New Enterprise Associates, plans to announce today it had acquired the organic photovoltaic research activities of Siemens AG, one of the solar industry leaders.
