And in this environment, what becomes most important is that we help our students build the capacity to form and participate in learning communities of their own long after they leave our classrooms and schools. None of this means that face-to-face experiences or that certain types of content are no longer necessary or important. But it does mean that we need to recognize the potential and powerful opportunities that rest outside the four walls and to help our students navigate those opportunities safely, ethically and effectively. The greatest challenge here is for educators to experience these shifts in learning for themselves so that they can understand the shifts in pedagogy that go along with them. We must keep reflecting on our own practice, asking who are our own teachers, how are we building our own networks, and how are we modeling our own learning for our students? We must see our primary role in the classroom not as teachers, but as learners who in turn inform and guide the practice of the other learners in the room. Only then can we really understand what a Learning 2.0 environment means.
