This site provides the details of an open source venture into porting Linux onto the iPod (http://www.apple.com/ipod/). Unfortunately the iPod is considered a "closed platform" by Apple, and technical info is virtually non-existant. This project has involved a fair amount of guesswork, reverse-engineering and experimentation! The end result is a Linux kernel (based on the uClinux (http://www.uclinux.org) port) running on the iPod. We hope that this initial port provides some inspiration to others out there to see what more they can get the iPod to do!
