This is probably the most foolproof option. A Christian Internet Service Provider like
CharacterLink.net works just like AOL or other online providers like EXECPC, but only allows access to approved sites. If you want to go to a site that is not on their approved list, you request it, and it generally takes a day or so for them to review and add it. This slight inconvenience is really the only weakness of this option. Another nationwide Christian company that filters out bad sites on their server is
SafePlace. Note that a service like SafePlace, though tamper-proof compared to filtering software, still must keep up a list of "bad" sites, while the CharacterLink method of only allowing pre-approved sites will undoubtedly be safer. CharacterLink or SafePlace may not have a local number where you live. CharacterLink is about $12.50/month for 10 hrs per week (as of 1/99 in one locality -- check for current rates). Again, for a list, see
SmartParent.
