Kimberly LaPrairiepromote the education, arts, and cultural communities in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. The station receives major funding from the St. Louis County Cable Television Education Commission, and is programmed by the Higher Education Consortium, which is composed of the 11 colleges and universities and 62 cooperating school districts in Greater St. Louis. The Board of Directors is comprised of the Presidents and/or Chancellors of the member colleges and universities.
HEC-TV reaches 522,000 subscribers every minute of every day. In addition to programming for the general viewing audience, all HEC-TV television productions are available to teachers, with applicable curriculum and classroom materials. HEC-TV member institutions award more than 50,000 hours of college credit annually to students taking telecourses broadcast on HEC-TV. More than 38,000 language students enhance their studies by watching foreign language broadcasts on HEC-TV.
In just the past two years HEC-TV produced programs have won 15 national awards and five international awards.
