jodi tompkinsshows solar system during any period of time by clicking and dragging it to a new time period. This is a good interactive site to display on the smartboard

International School of Central Switzerland"The site allows the teacher or student to control how they are viewing the solar system. Users can touch and drag to move things around and they have a complete set of controls to change scale, speed of orbits (passing of time), or planetary object to follow. For example, if you follow the Sun, the Sun is stationary and it shows the other planets orbiting the Sun. If you follow the Earth, then it shows the other planetary objects with a stationary Earth." Michelle KrillThis is a view of the solar-system which shows it as we understand it to be. The Sun is in the centre, and the planets orbit at varying speeds. Notice how the outer planets move much more slowly than the inner ones.

Jerry SwiatekUsing this interactive visualization tool students can see the different rates of orbit for all of the planets. Students can zoom in and zoom out to see more or less of the planets. Students can also adjust the speed of the orbits.
-
Mr StewartThis interactive visualization of the solar system is a great resource for elementary and middle school science classes. Students can see the differences in rate of orbit from planet to planet.
