Holly de WithThe website ‘Just in Time’ provides teachers with lesson plans and worksheets that they can use, or, get ideas from. The lessons content relates to the children’s world by placing time into real-life contexts; such as TV guides (lesson one), and their birthdays (lesson 6). Lee, Lee and Fox (2009) state that “children learn to measure time better when they are able to see it concretely in their life contexts”. By learning time through relevant contexts students can “develop an understanding of the passage of time, its measurement and representation through the use of everyday language and experiences” (NSW Board of Studies, 2002, pp.22).
When I found this website I became so excited because I could see myself using the ideas and activities in my own lessons. I would continue the lesson/s by bringing time into the students school-routines by having clocks that show daily events (eg. lunch) in the classroom. Also, I would use the interactive activities on the site as ‘fast finishers’.-

Jacqui McMahonThis site contains lesson plans and interactive activities in relation to telling the time. The lessons are sequence and Van de Walle, Karp and Bay-Williams (2010) and Sperry Smith (2009) also supports the sequenced teaching of time. The sequence starts with telling time by the hour then the half and quarter hour before finishing with the five and one minute intervals (Van de Walle et al, 2010 & Sperry Smith 2009). Sperry Smith (2009) points out that while preschoolers are not expected to tell time, they would benefit from sequencing their daily schedule as it helps them gain an understanding of time in the day. The web site explores the calendar and the associated language through a lesson plan and print activities.
