I’m nervous because designers too often take their necessity for granted–and fail to ask questions about when, where and for whom such designs might be inappropriate, or make the effort to understand why.
-
Design still suffers, for example, from having contradictory interests in sustainability and planned obsolescence, and still responds to the perils of mass production through the design of small-run luxury goods.

Andra KeayAnother interesting community, overlapping with last one. Met up with Sally Appin at Maker Faire last year, enjoyed her anthropunk talk. Think this overlaps with the conference you submitted to? ANZCA

Todd SuomelaBuilding on my doctoral project, A Brief History of the Future of Urban Computing and Locative Media, the Design Culture Lab is a way for me to continue research into how actor-network theory and critiques of everyday life can help people understand and shape emergent relations between people, places and things.
To begin, this blog is a place for me to keep track of my experiences and collect my thoughts on being a social anthropologist teaching art and design.
