At School Without Walls Foundation Academy, for example, the seventh-grade math exam passing rate jumped from 17 percent in 2007 to 63 percent this year. For seventh-grade ELA, the percentage increased from 46 percent to 73 percent.
In the Pittsford Central School District, grade five at Jefferson Road School, grades three and five at Park Road School and grades three and four at Mendon Center Elementary School had 100 percent of students pass the math exams.
Superintendent Thomas Gallagher attributed the increase of 36 percentage points to a new math program and additional tutoring.
For example, 54 percent of third-graders passed the English test last year. Now in fourth grade, 75 percent of that student group passed this year's English test.
