Ce projet lancé en 2005 - grâce à la collaboration de plusieurs institutions, britannique, allemande, russe et égyptienne - rassemble près de 800 pages numérisées pour la première fois en images haute définition de ce manuscrit du IVe siècle de notre ère. De nombreux fragments du texte, vieux d'environ 1 600 ans, étaient jusque-là conservés en quatre endroits, dont la British Library de Londres et le monastère Sainte-Catherine sur le mont Sinaï, en Egypte (où il a été retrouvé en 1844). Depuis 2008, les premières traductions du Codex Sinaiticus étaient accessibles sur Codexsinaiticus.org. Elles sont aujourd'hui achevées, disponibles en 4 langues (anglais, allemand, russe et grec).
