Jefferson LeStahl, Lesly. "What If Every Child Had A Laptop? - 60 Minutes - CBS News." Breaking News Headlines: Business, Entertainment & World News - CBS News. 20 May 2007. Web. 21 Nov. 2010. <http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/05/20/60minutes/main2830058.shtml>.
Lesly Stahl, in the article "What If Every Child Had A Laptop?” (2007), explains the “One Laptop Per Child” (2007), program created by professor Nicholas Negroponte. Stahl supports her explanation citing the professor’s work in Cambodia and the creation of the XO laptop, the cheap laptop which is distributed to the children in the poorer countries. The author’s purpose is to inform readers of the “One Laptop Per Child” program in order to examine the effect the program is having and how it will change things for the schools testing the program. The author writes in a semi-formal tone for average viewers.
The source comes from the CBS program “60 Minutes” which is a national organization of merit and comes from a professional reporter. Like the article about Venezuela, this article serves to illustrate how even in places less fortunate then the US, can still try and push education forward with projects like “One Laptop Per Child”, making it possible. This can be used to illustrate how a similar program could be adopted for Basha, and how parents could help the process as well; in the “One Laptop Per Child Program” every time someone buys an XO laptop one is bought for a child in a poorer country showing how outside donation could help ease the financial trouble that comes with implementing a laptop system.technology olpc development laptop child negroponte education
