At a meeting of the Memphis Writers' Group, I originally wrote this story as part of an exercise. It was based on the Spring 2008 entry first line for http://www.thefirstline.com/. At the time we did the exercise, the plan was to submit it to “The First Line” for consideration in their Spring 2008 issue. After doing the exercise, life ensued, and I forgot about it. Consequently, I let the deadline slip by, so instead I submitted my story to the Authspot. Sometimes the name they give you is all wrong.
