Overview
This sites purpose is to teach students about astronomy through inter-actives, games, interviews, activities, and other learning mechanisms. The intended audience is elementary school students, grades 1-5. The site uses professional scientists associated with the Natural History Museum. This site is colorful, and interactive; it presents accurate information in a fun way that will help students learn astronomy facts; I think this is a good site to send students who are interested in astronomy.
Content The base content of the site is easily identified by the toolbar. The authors of the site are not identified on the page itself, however once they are found it is obvious by their credentials that they are credible and professionals in astronomers or physicists. The latest date of revision is not provided and it is unknown if the content is updated frequently. The site is clearly designed to be an informative site. The content of the site is well organized and easy to understand. This site is free as possible of bias as it is a science based site. The inter-actives of the site change the way that information is presented and increase the site's value. The information that is presented seems to be accurate and is similar to information found on other sites.
Design
The homepage downloads quickly; it is appealing and attractive. Each section is labeled clearly and colorfully and would draw the attention of an elementary school student. The site is easy to navigate, incorporating a toolbar and quick links to all interactive media. There are no directions for using the site. The games and interviews and activities reinforce astronomy topics. The site has enough information to make the site worthwhile to visit. All information is clearly and cleverly labeled and easy to find. The overall design works well for the intended audience. -
